The PTO Sling™ is an apparatus to hoist and support the weight of the implement driveline (PTO shaft) while attaching the driveline receiver to the tractor’s rear PTO spline, making the PTO connections easier, quicker and safer. This hoisting apparatus consists of three sections of 2″ strap (polyester webbing), J hooks, connecting hook plates, cam buckles, a center sliding cradle and HDPE stiffening boards and other integrated hardware. The PTO Sling™ safely relieves the tractor operator’s usual need to hold and support a heavy implement shaft during the typical PTO connection process, which often requires manually lifting the driveline (as heavy as 100+ lbs.) and stooping or crouching at awkward angles while reaching for the PTO housing area for connection.
The PTO Sling™ by design uses the leverage points of both the tractor’s 3-point hitch and hydraulic system to achieve the lift and support needed during operation. First, the tractor operator will make a hydraulic lift so the tractor’s lift arms are stationery at or above the level of the PTO spline. Next, by one of two methods, the user will install the PTO Sling™:
- horizontally (preferred method) by a) wrapping one hook end of the strap around the topside of the tractor’s lift arm and connecting the hook to its corresponding suspended hook plate underneath, then (b) pulling the slack of the strap taut around the lift arm, then c) routing the center section of the strap (known as the cradle) under implement shaft, then repeat steps a) and b) to the opposite hook end of the strap with the other lift arm.
- vertically (alternate method) by a) routing the center section of the strap under the bottom of the driveline and centering the cradle’s topside directly onto the underside of the driveline, then (b) extend the two hook ends of the strap around the top link of the 3-point hitch and connecting the hooks together into a single hook, then (c) using the pull loops to adjust and remove slack in the strap and until the weight of the shaft is hoisted and supported within the center of cradle.
Once installed by either method with the strap properly routed and centered under the implement shaft, examine both hooks to see if they are either: a) secure around each lift arm (horizontal method); or, b) securely linked to each other around the hitch’s top link (vertical method). Then to fine tune the overall strap’s length and tautness, adjust the two pull loops and/or press the heavy duty cam buckle levers to easily cinch the strap height up or down, to incrementally raise or lower the PTO Sling’s cradle (now supporting the driveline) to the desired connecting level of the tractor’s PTO. Raise or lower the hydraulic lift as needed to aid in hoisting the driveline to the desired level.
The cradle of the PTO Sling™ has an open pouch on its top side which provide dual pockets on opposite ends to insert one or more of the three HDPE stiffening boards. Once inserted into the pouch, these boards create the proper balance of rigidity and flexibility within the cradle’s support features to ideally keep the weight of a implement driveline in the cradle’s center and minimize slide friction, allowing the driveline’s outer plastic sheath to easily slide forward along the center topside of the cradle toward the PTO housing area.
